It's A Good Thing...

...I don't have a lot of free time.

Because when I did have free time...I stumbled upon this stupid game and spent four hours of my life (that I will never get back) trying to conquer every level.

I feel more guilt than pride over my high score. Also, I've developed a mini case of carpal tunnel and my eyes are still pretty dry.

Humor Me.

Happy Friday.

This video is gooey, sappy, and all of the other words that allude to that type of adjective.

I don't care. I'm just a fool.

P.S. M.O.T.F. (Man of the Future) - These are the exact specs for the tree house I'd like. Keep them in a safe place.

Home Again, Home Again...

...jiggity jig.

My thirteen consecutive days of housesitting came to an end on Wednesday morning. I slept in my own bed last night and it was b-e-a-u-tiful.

I wish I could tell my neighbors (as if they care) that I'm a housesitter and not a 'lady of the night.' Some of them only see me when I'm coming home in the mornings in my pajamas. Not that I'd be earning a lot of money as a 'lady of the night' in my blue scrub pants and ratty old t-shirts...but still.

I'm not that kind of girl.

However, I did hit a different kind of low in my housesitting adventures last Thursday. Did I mention I was double booked for four of the thirteen days? Well...on Thursday I was running from house #2 to house #1. I get to the door of house #1 and realized I grabbed the keys to house #2. I ran back to the truck and grabbed house #1 keys. Instead of swapping keys 2 for 1, I swapped keys 1 for my truck keys - threw them in the truck and locked the door. Confusing? Just know I grabbed the right set of keys and in the process, locked my truck keys inside my truck.

I nanny on Thursdays. I also locked my phone inside my truck. I had no idea what I was going to do. Couldn't call nanny-boss to let her know I was running late. Then I saw them. House #1's spare keys to the little red car out front. I had no choice...I stole the car.

I started it up and as I was pulling away from the house realized what was happening. I was stealing (technically borrowing) a car. It was hot outside anyway, but I was sweating bullets.

All's well that ends well I guess. Mommy dearest brought me my spare key and I did NOT crash the car I stole. I told the car's owner what I had done, and if he weren't the nicest man on the face of the Earth, I probably would be blogging from the big house right now.

You can imagine how happy I am to have a break and to be back home for a while. And. If you can't imagine how excited the Diva was to have me home, here is a snap shot that captured her delight.

Proverbs 15:30

...says, "A cheerful look brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the bones."

There is nothing that lifts a heavy, hold-your-breath situation like a piece of good news. The second it hits is followed directly by a deep, fulfilling breath and a long exhale of relief.

My family got some good news today. It's a good day.

I Ain't Your Hun, Sugar.

Listen, Taco Bell boy...I know we've been seeing a lot of each other lately but last time I checked - I'm still paying for my dinner. Mmmk, Hun?

What The?

When you've exhausted all of your other resources - it's time to take your most important questions to the bloggo-sphere.

What the heck is this?
We're stumped. It's one of those things that has been laying around the office - is obviously not being used...but we just don't want to throw it away.

So?

What the?

I'm Crazy About Your Farmer's Tan, Sugar.

Well. I went from this last night...

...to this tonight.

And that's ok. Were it not for this little fella - I wouldn't have been able to go lose my mind at the Kenny concert.

All three acts were so sweet. Opener for the opener, Lady Antebellum, is one of my current favorites. Love their album, you should most definitely pick it up. The lead guitarist is Katherine Heigl's (Izzy for all you Grey's Anatomy fans) brother-in-law. Do NOT think I didn't think about tracking him down after the show to ask if he knew whether or not Izzy was gonna pull through next season.

Miranda Lambert was ridiculous. She is SO feisty and full of it and I love her music. This is round two watching her live and I enjoyed it very much.

Kenny. Kenny played for two hours. Kenny has a lot of good songs - songs that you forget belong to him. He had a smile on his face the whole time, was covered in sweat and sang his heart out. One of my most favorite moments was during "Back Where I Come From." Right there on the big screen behind he and the band were pictures of our city. Both Curly and I got choked up.

It was. AH-mazing.

Conflict does nothing more to me than make me want to punch my own face off.

Gazelle In Tents.

So I read a book. It's called The Total Money Makeover - it's by Dave Ramsey. I read it because the man that bought it for me was ca-ute. I'm glad I read it because his ideas about money management are a constant (most of the time) in the back of my mind when I go to spend.

He's a debt nazi - believes that if you live like no one else now that you can live like no one else later. Work, work, work - pay off debt. Save, save, save - pay cash for everything.

Dear Dave,

I hope by the time I'm living like no one else I will have plenty of living left to do. I hope I don't have to wait to see Europe (or at least the East Coast) until I'm on a steady diet of Metamucil. I appreciate all the responsibility your book has instilled in me - but someday soon this intense little gazelle would like to spend some time in tents. In the wilderness - where gazelles belong.

Love,

LayneStreet

P.S. I'm going to spend a fortune on Kenny Chesney tickets and I don't CARE!

1, 2, 3 Strikes, You're OUT!

The Stylist, the Wu and I learned just how fun it can be to make baseball players blush last night. You can only cat call at the opposing team. If you cat call anyone on the home team - you may run into them at the grocery store...er...the drive through line at Taco Bell and that would just be awkward.

Gospel.

Well kids - it's been a busy life out here on Layne Street. Interesting? No. Busy - yes. And that's ok for now. One day I'm going to go on vacation instead of holding down the fort! Until then - here I am and this is where I'm at.

I ask for advice because I either want support or direction. There is much to be gained from wise counsel. However, sometimes I treat that advice as though it was the gospel.

The problem? Everyone's advice come from different places. It comes from life experience, deductive reasoning, emotion, etc. Everyone's life experiences, reasoning and emotions are different - maybe similar, but different. When advice is offered and not received with the question, "does this ring true with me" - you can allow it to become gospel. Sometimes this is good because sometimes we get in the way of our own growth and we need a voice of reason.

But.

Sometimes - you just need to let the gospel be the gospel. Continue to ask friends and elders for their advice. Listen well, don't just hear. Think it over -but don't just accept it as fact.

I'm not a proponet of being skeptical - I'm just a push over that is learning that my road is not anyone elses' to travel.

That is all.

"Layne, this isn't very funny."

"I know."

My Last Nerve: Segment 1

This bike certainly cannot be misconstrued as a car - especially if you are the four cars behind this bicyclist in morning traffic.

I'm sorry if you find this to be offensive. I am pretty controversial.
